our story

Two friends, a friend group with strong opinions, and one increasingly furious spreadsheet.

how it started

Heiko and Anne have been best friends for 15+ years. Somewhere along the way, they assembled a group of friends who do the things friends do: long dinners, shared holidays, year-long pen-and-paper campaigns, far too many board game nights.

Every good friend group has one persistent problem. Theirs was decisions.
What movie should we watch? What board game should we play? Where do we order food from? Tonight’s dinner debate could run an hour. Sometimes nobody got fed.

Eventually Heiko and Anne did what tech-y people do when life annoys them. They opened a spreadsheet.

how it’s going

The spreadsheet started simple. Then it gained columns. Then formulas. Then conditional formatting. By the third version, it had a “reset all values” button and a brief experiment with cells that flashed red. It also required a small tutorial.

Through enough iterations, Heiko and Anne landed on the −3 to +3 scoring system that bop still uses today. (The deeper “why this scale” sits on the How It Works page; trust that they tried every alternative first.)

The spreadsheet had one fatal flaw, though: everyone hated the spreadsheet.

So they built best option. Same brain. No Excel. And bop was born.

what we want for you

We don’t want our friend group to argue about the board game. We want them to play the board game. We want the same for you.

That’s the thing best option is for. Find the option, get to the actual evening, spend more time with the people you like and less time choosing what to do with them.

meet the team

heiko

Where to order food?
Nothing beats Italian. Let’s have Vitello Tonnato, Pizza and Tiramisu.

What movie to watch?
Preferably it’s not a movie, but a series with strong story.

What boardgame to play?
Starcraft! The most well-balanced strategy game of all time.

Your job at best option?
Developing the app with a lot of love for security and identity management.

anne

Where to order food?
I am sucker for ordering Indian. Currys don’t get worse when delivered through weather and time.

What movie to watch?
Everything everywhere all at once is my fav of the year.

What boardgame to play?
Recently I like clever card games even more: Let’s play The Crew.

Your job at best option?
Using a lot of yellow. Website, content and marketing are on my list.

so that’s us
